As the enclosure component of steel structure buildings, wall panels are the key factor to ensure the overall function of steel structure buildings and improve comfort. At present, there are mainly the following types of wall panels for steel structure buildings.

Brick walls

Brick walls were originally widely used in brick-concrete structures, when most walls were load-bearing components; while brick walls in steel structure buildings mainly serve as space enclosures and partitions. This type of wall form is mainly used for the interior walls of steel structure buildings; when used for the exterior walls of steel structure buildings, since the periphery of the steel structure building (such as steel side beams and steel side columns) may be exposed, the influence of cold and hot bridge factors should be reasonably considered.

Light steel keel composite wall

For some light steel keels of light steel keel composite wall, filling materials (such as sound insulation cotton) or cover panels (such as cement fiberboard) are laid on both sides of the keel. This wall form meets the characteristics of streamlined construction, but because it is not conducive to later personalized decoration, it has not yet been widely promoted in high-rise steel structures.

Aerated concrete strip board (ALC board)

ALC strip board is now quite common in China, with relatively uniform size modulus and factory production. It is currently widely used in the interior and exterior walls of steel structure buildings. When ALC board is used as an exterior wall, it is generally hung externally to avoid the influence of cold and hot bridge factors on steel structure buildings.

Among the above-mentioned wall panel types, brick walls are the most mature in terms of construction technology, but factors such as thermal insulation and energy saving still need to be considered when used in steel structure buildings; light steel keel composite walls are currently mainly used in steel structure buildings with fine decoration standards, which is not conducive to steel structure buildings that require secondary decoration in the later stage; ALC panels are factory-produced and installed on-site, and with the development of market competition, their costs are gradually decreasing, and they have broad development prospects in the future.
